ONCE UPON A MATTRESS IS NOW PLAYING!

Rick Gooding is directing our summer musical
, ONCE UPON A MATTRESS, with music by Mary Rodgers (daughter of Richard Rodgers), lyrics by Marshall Barer, and book by Jay Thompson, Marshall Barer, and Dean Fuller.  The cast is a nice mix of new faces and MCT regulars.  For a complete list of the cast, click HERE.

Based on the fairy tale "The Princess and the Pea," ONCE UPON A MATTRESS was written by Mary Rodgers and Marshall Barer as part of an adult summer camp activity.  Originally written as a one act play, it was so well received they decided to expand it into a full length musical.

The story centers around Prince Dauntless the Drab whose mother, Queen Aggravain, seeking to keep the boy to herself, has declared that he will wed only a true princess of royal blood.  When Princess Winnifred arrives dripping wet (having swam the moat!) and declares herself a contender for the Prince's hand, the Queen devises a clever test to determine whether this self-proclaimed princess is worthy of her son.

ONCE UPON A MATTRESS premiered at the Phoenix Theatre on May 11, 1959 with Carol Burnett playing the part of Princess Winnifred, Joseph Bova as Prince Dauntless, and Jane White as Queen Aggravain.

Our show opened at the Martha Ellen Tye Playhouse on July 23, at 7:30 p.m. and continues on July 24, 30, and 31, at 7:30 p.m., with a Sunday matinee on July 25, at 2:00 p.m.  Call the MCT Box Office to make your reservations today!

THE MCT 2010 - 2011 SEASON IS ANNOUNCED!

In these trying times, it is sometimes a good idea to leave your worries behind and just relax and live a little.  MCT will help you laugh a lot, as well!  For the relatively small price of a ticket you can enjoy a full evening of laughter and entertainment with our coming 2010 - 2011 MCT Season of Shows.  A season ticket, good for FOUR performances of any of the shows is an even better bargain!  We start with a comedy/mystery who-done-it, replete with hidden doors and secret passageways, in John Bishop's
THE MUSICAL COMEDY MURDERS OF 1940.  MCT veteran Rick Gooding will direct, and this show will be presented October 22 - 30, 2010.  Following that is our annual end of the year treat with AN EVENING OF IMPROV (Instant Comedy - Just Add Spam), including the four day workshop for all you budding Robin Williams' and Whoopi Goldbergs to hone your improv skills and learn to think on your feet, with direction from Tom LaVille. The workshop will be conducted on December 26 - 29 and the public performances will be presented on December 30 and 31, 2010.  The first show in the new year is an offbeat comedy from John Cariani, titled ALMOST, MAINE Arlene McAtee will be directing this new show and it will be on our stage February 11 - 19, 2011.  Pete Grady directs the Jean Battlo comedy THE LITTLE THEATRE'S PRODUCTION OF HAMLET, and no, this is not a play with a cast of children.  It is a show where professional and amateur theatre people collide, head-on, with very funny results. We hope you don't miss this show that runs April 8 - 16, 2011.  Then for the final show of the season, we bring you the always popular Gala fundraiser and musical review.  At this time the director and the theme of the show have not been announced, but the play dates are scheduled for June 2 - 5, 2011.   We hope to see you on our stage or in our audience.  A good time awaits you either way!  Live a little.  Laugh a lot!
